HAMBURG EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Services code mandates that all municipalities prepare, maintain and keep current an emergency operations plan for the prevention and minimization of injury and damage caused by a major emergency or disaster.

Hamburg Emergency Management has been meeting monthly since 1998 and has prepared this operation plan. This plan is updated regularly and has been approved by the Berks County Emergency Management and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management.

This siren has been purchased through donations from the businesses, residents and organizations of the Borough as well as funds from the Borough.

This siren will be sounded in the event of a natural or man-made disaster as well as in the event of an evacuation or severe weather event.

Information has been sent to all residents informing them what to do when the siren is sounded. There will be a monthly test of the system, to insure that the siren is working correctly.  This test is run the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.

As part of the Hamburg Emergency Management Operations Plan, the team must have an established place for an Emergency Operations Center. EMA has had to open the Emergency Operations Center on numerous occasions, i.e., a blizzard when I-78 has been shut down and during Hurricane Floyd to name a few.

Members of the Emergency Management are volunteers. They work hard to try and keep the residents of the Borough safe.

Kim Berger is the Emergency Management Coordinator.
