SNOW EMERGENCY INFORMATION

Residents are asked to conform with the following rules and regulations during and after a snowfall.  It is pertinent that everyone cooperate during a snow emergency.

A snow emergency may be declared at anytime.  This includes in the event of a storm or the prediction of a heavy snow storm.  The Borough Manager may declare a snow emergency and parking will be prohibited on the snow emergency routes.

Listen to local radio stations for the announcement and also watch the Municipal Access Channel which is #99.  Local stations include:

                      WIOV - 105 FM - WRFY - 102.5 FM and WEEU - 830 AM

In addition, we are asking those residents with fire hydrants on their property to keep the snow cleared away from them, in the event there is a need to utilize them in an emergency.

Snow and ice must be removed from the sidewalks within 24 hours after snow has ceased to fall or ice to form.

Residents are required to make a path of at least 24” wide on all sidewalks.

All vehicles being driven during the snow emergency must be equipped with either snow tires or chains or both.

There are two areas of grave concern for our plowing crews:

1.     DO NOT THROW OR BLOW SNOW/ICE INTO THE STREET!!!!.  We have a lot of trouble in the past with this matter and the police department has been instructed to cite anyone who is seen doing this.  This practice creates difficulty for the Borough crew.  Remember the crew will continue to plow the street as long as it is deemed necessary.  They will attempt to get as close to the curb as possible to clear away the snow.  At times this may mean that the snow ill be pushed onto the sidewalk.  We offer our apologies for this, however, we need to clear the streets.

2.   We are asking all residents to be patient in the event of a snow storm.  The crew will plow all major roadways first and alleys last.  The plows will get to your street as quickly as possible.  However, your patience is of utmost importance.  Everyone would like their road or alley plowed first, however, we have a limited crew with a limited amount of trucks and plows.  PLEASE understand the crew is trying their best to accommodate everyone, however, we cannot do it all at once.  WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.
