Brief History
The Wastewater Treatment Plant went on line in 1963 as a primary treatment plant. The system was expanded and upgraded to secondary treatment in 1974 with a blower system added in 1982. The plant was upgraded again in 1993 with the addition of aerobic digestion. The Authority also began taking sewage from Tilden Township. The latest upgrade began in 2006 and was completed in 2007. This consisted of the construction of an oxidation ditch and an increase in the permitted flow from 1.0 million gallons per day (MGD) to 1.5 MGD.
The Authority absorbed with the Windsor Township Authority in 2001 at which time it also became responsible for the operation of the system, which was formerly leased to the borough. The Authority also operates the water system consisting of the distribution system and the Furnace Creek Water Filtration Plant, as well as 4 wells.
Wells 2, 3, and 4 are located in the watershed in Windsor Township near the filtration plant and Well 5 is located in Windsor Township on Upland Court. The Authority is also permitting 2 new wells also located in the watershed. There is also a 30,000,000 gallons impoundment located in the watershed.
The filtration plant went online in 1996 and has 2 filters which feature an up-flow clarifier and conventional filtration. Each filter is permitted at 0.400 MGD.
